When you are recovering from an injury no matter whether it is a small slip, trip or fall or something more major it can be an emotional ride. If you are unable to move about much or have to stay at home it can often make even the sanest people go a bit crazy.
How to stay reasonably calm after a slip, trip or fall
The main thing you need to remember is to try to stay positive. A big part of recovery is your mental wellbeing as well as your physical wellbeing. So, it is important to have a positive outlook and tell yourself this is only a phase and that you will soon be better and back to normal after your trip injury.
How to cope with the mood swings during recovery
Even the most positive people can have their down moments where they feel so low. Recovering from a slip, trip or fall injury or any other accident can be a tough time and mood swings are a common side effect. When you feel yourself thinking negative thoughts, or getting low, do something that makes you happy and that helps you forget about that slip, trip or fall. This could be anything from reading a book, listening to music or watching your favourite film.
If this does not help then phone a friend. When you have been in a slip, trip or fall accident this is the time you need your friends most. This will help you to forget your negative feelings and hopefully lift your spirits for a while.
If you try all of this and you genuinely cannot help the mood swings during recovery of your fall injury then seek help. If you find yourself very low then you may need to speak to a professional who can help you out of your hole. It is not a bad thing to ask for help and it is better to seek help early than get stuck in the vicious cycle of mood swings which could turn into depression if not recognised.
Recovery from any injury, including a slip, trip or fall can be difficult. If you have had a slip, trip or fall within the last three years that wasn’t your fault you may be able to make a claim. Speak to Accident Advice Helpline to find out more.
