Safety checks to make before using gym equipment

Safety checks to make before using gym equipment

Millions of us use gym equipment on a regular basis to maintain good physical health or to get fitter. However, when gym equipment doesn’t function correctly, there is a risk of a serious accident such as a slip, trip or fall that could result in a medical emergency and the need to make a repetitive strain injury claim if the accident took place in a commercial setting and wasn’t your fault . That’s why it’s essential to ensure all gym equipment is in perfect working order.

Check every piece of equipment scrupulously

If you’ve recently purchased a new home gym and you’ve yet to assemble it, get other family members or friends to help you. With other people on board, you will be able to benefit from different perspectives and opinions, meaning the chance of accidents should be much lower.

It is extremely important to ensure that all bolts are securely tightened to prevent any serious injuries and avoid trips or falls. Conduct checks to make sure the equipment is working correctly by using a lower weight setting at first, or try to get the feedback of someone with experience of setting up gym equipment, if you can.

Remember – don’t try to lift like Arnold Schwarzenegger until you have good form

It is also very important that you learn how to use your gym equipment with the correct posture. Find someone who can observe you when you perform any exercises, preferably someone who is familiar with them. Another useful method is to print out a diagram of each exercise and how it should be performed and put it up on a wall or board in your gym.
