Problems caused by lorry loads not being properly secured

When you drive down the motorway, you shouldn’t be required to swerve in order to dodge rubble or falling rocks from lorries that failed to secure their loads correctly. If and when this happens, massive amounts of damage will be done to any vehicle that is behind that lorry and there is the potential for a pileup.

The importance for loads to be secured to lorries cannot be overstated as casualties, as well as fatalities, can stack up very quickly if, for example, a lorry is carrying heavy logs and they roll off, crushing cars nearby.  You are within your rights to claim for compensation for injuries after dangerous lorry driving accidents.

Problems caused by lorry loads not being properly secured:

    • Damage to infrastructure. If a lorry’s load spills on a road, there is every chance that there can be damage to the concrete it lands on. If a lorry spills corrosive loads onto the road then the damage will be even worse and more dangerous. Lorries have been known to transport dangerous loads that aren’t meant to be exposed to the public and should you be exposed to injury in this way you will have a serious claim for compensation.
    • Casualties and fatalities. If lorry loads are not properly secured and the goods fall on cars behind it can cause serious physical injuries. Injuries caused by car crashes or crush injuries can range from minor cuts, paralysis and worst case scenario is death. All it takes is for someone to forget to secure the ties on heavy loads and someone could be looking at spending the rest of their life in a wheelchair.
    • Damage to vehicles and private property. Falling debris from the back of a lorry could seriously damage your car, not to mention your life. You are due compensation for the personal costs of the damage to your car done by items falling from the back of a lorry.
    • Environmental issues. When harmful waste spills from a lorry, serious risks are posed to the environment with animals and plants alike at risk of being killed.
