Do I need injections to go to the Middle East?

The Middle East is a popular tourist destination and a favourite for backpackers. However, before leaving on your adventures make sure you take the required precautions to avoid a travel injury.

Do I need any injections to avoid a travel injury in the Middle East?

Wherever you travel abroad it is always recommended that you make sure you are up to date with your routine vaccinations to avoid a travel injury. These include; diphtheria, rabies, hepatitis, meningitis, tetanus and polio. These vaccinations are especially important before travelling to the Middle East because the water there is considerably dirtier than here which means more bacteria travel through it, making it much more likely to catch polio or other illnesses.

What else should I do in order to avoid a travel accident in the Middle East?

One very important tip to remember to avoid a nasty travel illness is to avoid drinking the tap water there unless it has been filtered or boiled. Unlike here, they do not have an advanced filtering system to make the water clean before reaching our taps so it is always best to stick to bottled water to avoid a nasty travel injury.

The heat in the Middle East is much more intense than England so avoid walking out in peak times and ensure you stay well hydrated all day. Also, make sure you stay covered up in the sun by wearing sleeves and a sun hat to protect your skin from a nasty travel injury.

If you are walking for a long time make sure you take regular breaks and walk in the shade when you can. Sunstroke is no laughing matter and can turn into a serious travel accident if not treated properly.
