After a long flight, there really is nothing better than getting to the luxury of your hotel room, running a bath and climbing into bed. But sometimes, hotel rooms do not live up to expectations, and sometimes, tourists and visitors are unfortunate enough to be allocated a defective hotel room with no chance to relocate. Defects in hotel rooms can be very dangerous, so it can be useful to know what to do in the instance of discovering faults and dangers in your living quarters whilst abroad so you can rectify them formally when you return. In cases like this, photographs are key.
Why are photographs so important?
When you notice that you are in a hotel room that is a risk to safety and/or is home to defects, it is up to the hotel to rectify these things as defects can cause an accident on holiday and a potential travel accident compensation claim. When the defective equipment is not replaced and you are not moved to a safe, suitable hotel room, a formal complaint or legal case can be opened on your return and photographs are proof of the conditions you were subjected to.
What should I photograph?
You should photograph any defects you find in your hotel room if the hotel doesn’t rectify and provide a solution to them. Leaks can cause slips, trips and falls, rogue, unruly cables can cause a whole host of accidents including trips and slips, defect windows and doors can cause fall accidents, and defective electrical equipment can cause shocks and burns. Ensure you take photographs of any defects not rectified by the hotel immediately, as defects put you at risk of an accident on holiday.
How should I photograph?
If possible, take photographs with a digital camera, as the quality can be far better than with a mobile phone. Videos are also very important, such as showing an area which puts you and your party at risk of a dangerous slip or trip, or injury. Switching on the “date” stamp is also important for proof purposes.
