    Hidden dangers of hotel balconies

There are numerous dangers of hotel balconies, all of them capable of causing a serious accident on holiday. The last thing you want is for memories of your trip away to be soured by a painful holiday injury. Therefore, it can be useful to know what to look out for when safety-checking your balcony.

What are the main hidden dangers of hotel balconies?

    • Broken railing

Check the fencing around the balcony for signs of damage. Grab the rails in your hand and push and pull the to check they are sturdy. You don’t want to discover one has a hidden crack when it’s too late. Balcony fences are there for safety. If they are not fit for purpose, then a serious holiday accident is on the cards.

    • Floor surface

When you arrive at your hotel, the sun might be shining and the winds calm. However, if it rains, your balcony floor can turn into a serious health hazard. Most balconies have patio floors. Add some slick surface water to this. Mix with the fact you are unlikely to be wearing your most well-gripped shoes on holiday. You have a recipe for disaster and potentially some serious injuries abroad.

    • Getting locked out

Whilst this one doesn’t have the immediately obvious threat of the other two, it’s still one of the main dangers of hotel balconies.

Some hotels have sliding doors you can open from the outside. Others don’t. it’s essential to check which one your balcony has before you go outside. Being trapped on the balcony leaves you at the mercy of the elements. If it rains, you can easily catch a cold or another illness on holiday.
