A diving holiday to the Philippines is one of the most sublime experiences on earth. With an eclectic mix of marine life and shipwrecks, the Philippines has something to offer for every taste. With this handy guide, you can ensure that your dream getaway goes without a hitch.
Taking a diving course
Even if you are an experienced diver, it is important to attend a diving course for important safety tips. These courses will include what to do in the event of an emergency, which aquatic life to avoid and any areas that are off-limits for environmental or other reasons. If you are taking someone with you, always consider their limitations as they might not be as experienced a diver as you.
Although the Philippines is, by and large, a relatively safe destination, every holiday location suffers from crime. Ensure that you store any valuables in the safety deposit box in your room. Keep any money in the inside pocket of your jacket so as not to be an easy target for pickpockets. If you witness any suspicious behaviour, report this immediately to the police.
Renting a car
Some people choose to hire a car for getting around on their diving trip. Ensure that you use a reputable firm and ensure that your driving licence is valid for driving in the Philippines. Inspect the vehicle for any obvious damage. A reputable car hire company will give you a tour of the vehicle, pointing out any defects to ensure there are no discrepancies when the vehicle is returned. It is nonetheless a good idea to take a photo of any defects you find and bring this to the attention of the hire company.
