Five sure fire signs that you’ve purchased a faulty product

A faulty or defective product can lead to serious injury and in some cases may even be fatal. At Accident Advice Helpline, we have years of experience in all areas of personal injury compensation, including claims for defective products. Not only have we used our expertise to help those who have suffered a wrong, we also publish helpful articles such as this in order to prevent accidents. Here are five sure fire signs that you’ve purchased a faulty product.

    1. Physical damage
The first and often the most obvious sign that a product is defective is physical damage to the product.  A quick visual inspection of the product could help to reduce the chances of sustaining an injury through using a defective product. Take care to inspect the packaging before purchasing.
    2. Sparks
When it comes to a faulty electrical product, the tell-tale sign that it may be defective is if the product produces sparks. If a product begins to spark or emits a burning smell, unplug it immediately and refrain from using it.
    3. Strange noises
Again this applies mostly to electrical products, but if the product you are using begins to emit a strange or loud noise outside of normal operating noises, then this is a sign that the product could be defective.  Again the best advice is to unplug immediately and contact the manufacturer or retailer.
    4. Allergic reactions
Some defective products may contain materials which may provoke an allergic reaction when they come into contact with the skin. This applies particularly to cosmetic products which may cause rashes, burning or even serious scarring of the skin. If you have an adverse reaction to a particular product, stop using it immediately and consult your doctor
    5. Check your product against a list of recalled products
Last but definitely not least, if you believe that you have purchased a faulty product, then it’s a good idea to check the product against a list of recalled or faulty products. These lists are published on the internet and are easy to access. This information can significantly help reduce the chances of an accident as the result of a faulty product.

If you’ve had an accident as the result of a defective product and it wasn’t your fault, you could be entitled to claim compensation. Contact Accident Advice Helpline today on 0800 689 0500 for more information.
