    Exercises you can do at your desk to stop RSI

    Repetitive strain injuries are one of the most common work-related ailments for office workers. While some accidents at work cannot be avoided, there are ways to minimise the strain placed on your body each day. In fact, there are quick and simple exercises you can do at your desk to stop repetitive strain injuries in their tracks.

    Exercises you can do to prevent repetitive strain injuries

    The exercises you can do at your desk do not have to be distracting, strenuous, or time consuming. Just gentle movements can greatly improve your ergonomics, reducing the risk of sustaining a repetitive strain injury.

    One of the most obvious ways to prevent repetitive strain injury is actually not one of the exercises you can do at your desk. It is recommended that you get up from your desk and move around every 30 minutes. This can simply be to nip to the printer or get a glass of water. Whatever your reason, take your eyes off the screen and go for a wander.

    When sitting at your desk, roll your shoulders back into an upright position as you work. Hold this and relax. Ask your employer for a lumbar support, which will encourage your body to adopt this position while working.

    Rotate your wrists and stretch your arms at regular intervals. Sporadically move your feet in a stepping motion on and off your foot rest to encourage circulation in the legs.

    While these exercises you can do at your desk are helpful in stopping repetitive strain injuries, they are no replacement for a thorough workplace assessment. Ask your employer if you are yet to receive yours.

    Beyond exercises you can do at your desk

    It goes without saying that at time the exercises you can do at your desk will not be enough.
