For most people their local common is for a variety of events and activities from dog walking and cycling to the fun fair or the circus. The local common can host a variety of exciting events sometimes but sometimes it is just a place to relax and enjoy the sun. However, there are still dangers you need to be aware of whilst walking around and not only simple slips, trip and falls.
What type of slips, trips and falls can occur on my local common?
One of the most common causes of slips, trips and falls is tripping over an obstacle in front of you. This could be a rock, a stick or something that has been left by previous visitors. Other causes of a slip, trip or fall injury could be from a muddy puddle which can become very slippery or a collision on the path between a pedestrian and a dog or cyclist or anyone.
How to help prevent sustaining a slip, trip or fall injury
The main way to prevent slip, trip and fall injuries and the main thing you need to remember is to always be aware of your surroundings. Don’t just look down or only in one position as then you won’t see others around you who also may not be looking or coming from a different direction.
If you are aware of your surroundings the chances of having a slip, trip or fall will decrease greatly as it will mean that you can spot hazards before they become an issue. You will see that rock you may have sustained a trip injury on and you will see that person on their mobile not looking where they are walking. This will not only help you but will also prevent others from having a similar accident.
If you have had a slip, trip or fall within the last three years in the common or anywhere else that wasn’t your fault you may be able to make a claim.
