Having a concussion can be a painful experience. Most concussions are caused by a head injury such as hitting your head after a slip, trip or fall. Concussion can be as simple as a headache and feeling a little bit sick to passing out, feeling confused and vomiting. However, any concussion no matter how severe the slip, trip or fall was needs looking after so that you recover quickly.
Caring for concussion after a slip, trip or fall
Even if your slip, trip or fall injury seemed minor, if you hit your head you may suffer with some type of concussion.
One of first things you need to do is apply a cold compress onto any of your slip, trip or fall injuries that are particularly sore or swelling up. This is especially important to do if the swelling or pain is on your head as the compress will help reduce swelling.
What else do I need to do whilst recovering from concussion?
Whilst recovering from concussion following your slip, trip or fall avoid alcohol or any recreational drugs. Also, avoid stressful situations if you can and rest up as much as possible. The best thing you can do for your slip, trip or fall injury is to sleep and drink plenty of water.
Whilst you are recovering from concussion avoid driving or riding a bike as you may end up having another slip, trip or fall or worse. Also, make sure you have someone stay with you for at least 48 hours after the slip, tip or fall to ensure if you do lose consciousness or things get worse you have someone to get help for you.
If your symptoms get worse or you do not get better within 48 hours you should always seek medical help as your slip, trip or fall injury could be a lot worse than you thought.
If you have had a slip, trip or fall within the last 3 years that wasn’t your fault and that did or didn’t result in concussion you may be able to make a claim.
