    When you dye your hair, you expect to emerge the other side with beautiful locks that make you look and feel a million dollars. Sadly, the process doesn’t always go to plan.     Can you claim if you have an allergic reaction to hair dye?

    There are certain instances when it may be possible to claim compensation if you have an allergic reaction to hair dye. Firstly, if you’ve dyed your hair at home, and you’ve followed all the instructions on the box, and you’ve still had an allergic reaction, you may be able to make a claim. Secondly, if you’ve used the same product for a long period of time, and then you use it again and you develop symptoms of an allergy, you may be able to claim if the manufacturer has changed the ingredients or chemical makeup without warning. It’s also possible to make a claim in cases where you’ve visited a salon, and they haven’t treated you with due diligence. Dying your hair carries a risk because of the chemicals involved, and all salons are advised to recommend skin tests. If the stylist failed to do this or make the client aware of the risks or they displayed negligence when it came to actually dying the hair, you may have grounds for compensation.

    Symptoms of an allergy to hair dye may include:

    • Itchy, irritated skin
    • Skin rashes where the dye was applied to the scalp
    • Swelling
    • Feeling sick
    • Headaches
    • A burning sensation in the skin

    In rare cases, allergies can result in anaphylactic shock, which causes breathing difficulties. In this case, urgent medical attention is required.
