"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

Are you liable for uninvited guests on your property?

We all understand that when we invite people into our homes, we should have considered their health and safety, taking reasonable precautions to prevent any accidents. Yet, there are times when people simply call round unexpectedly, when the house is somewhat turned upside down, so are you liable for uninvited guests if they have an accident in your home? After all, slips, trips and falls are fairly common accidents.

Accidents at home: are you liable for uninvited guests?

Generally speaking, even if you haven’’t invited someone round, once you have brought them into your home, you have a duty to ensure their health and safety, regardless of whether you were expecting them.

With that in mind, are you liable for uninvited guests?

In the case that an injury or illness is sustained in your home, or on your property, due to your negligence, you can be held liable for the harm and distress suffered by any guest. This is the case, even if the accident that occurred was a simple trip over a trailing wire.

Are you liable for uninvited guests who are to blame for their own accident? This is an entirely different situation, and the chances are that if a guest accident occurred due to human error or a simple mishap, you would not be held liable.

    Claiming compensation for domestic accidents

If you have been involved in an accident at home through no fault of your own, and you believe a third party is to blame, you may be able to claim personal injury compensation for the harm and distress you have been made to endure.
