When moving house you need to be very careful when hiring removal services. The reason for this is that they are going to be moving your whole life and you want it arrive at its destination in one piece. Here are mistakes to avoid.
Shop around the ensure you don’t have to make a claim for their slip, trip or fall
Don’t pick the first removal services you find in the yellow pages. Ask for a quote and shop around. You do not want to pick one randomly to find they have a bad rating of slips, trips and falls with valuables.
Don’t ignore recommendations
If your friends or family have used one recently they will be able to tell you whether any of their workers broke any of their possessions through a slip, trip or fall and you will have gotten the advice from a trusted source.
You don’t have to let them handle all your possessions
If you have some small, highly valuable breakable items don’t be afraid of taking that yourself and telling them to leave those items. If it means that much to you then you may not want to leave it in the hands of a firm who may not have a slip, trip or fall but who may still not be as careful as you would be.
Tell them exactly what is fragile so they avoid a slip, trip or fall even more
Don’t be afraid to walk round the boxes with them telling them exactly which boxes are fragile. Even if you have written on these boxes advising this it may be missed by the workers so by pointing the out they can be extra cautious to not have a slip, trip or fall whilst carrying these.
If the first box they pick up they drop after a slip, trip or fall get rid of them
This is pretty self explanatory but if they have a slip, trip or fall and damage the first or even the third box, don’t be afraid to talk to them about this and either get them to be extra careful or get rid of them. The last thing you want is for your possessions to be all broken up.
If you personally have a slip, trip or fall which wasn’t your fault you may be able to make a claim. Speak to Accident Advice Helpline today about making a claim.
