A man who was seriously injured in an angle grinder accident has finally received a five-figure settlement after a horrific accident that occurred at work three years ago. Medical staff who attended to the man, Mr Alan Bailey, at the time told him the angle grinder had sliced into his throat. The injury left him millimetres from death and resulted in serious injuries both mentally and physically.
Mr Bailey was working as a welder for his employer in Birmingham when the accident happened. His employer has since admitted it was liable for the incident and Mr Bailey has used the services of a specialist lawyer to help him claim compensation for what happened.
He was wearing all the proper and relevant protective gear when the accident happened, but it turned out later that the employer had not properly assessed the equipment he was using for risk. As such the incident could reasonably have been prevented if the proper steps had been taken in the first place. Mr Bailey now has a significant scar and he needed several weeks off work to recover. The settlement has helped in some way to recover from the incident and to draw a line under it.
Could you claim compensation for a similar accident?
Suffering an accident like this is going to be life-changing. It not only inflicts physical injuries but it also affects you mentally – and this is perfectly understandable. If you have been in an accident similar to this, whether it is an angle grinder accident or something similar, you may be able to claim compensation. It would need to be proven that your accident was preventable and there was evidence of negligence to back this up and support your case. If this was the situation then a compensation payment could reasonably be a possibility.
