"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

    Accident counselling

After a serious accident, medical treatment is important, but it’s also important to consider getting accident counselling. Although not everybody needs it, many people find that it can make a big difference to their chances of getting back to normal in the long term. After a road accident it can help you to get back behind the wheel. After a surgical accident it can help you to regain your confidence around doctors. A successful accident compensation claim could help you to pay for it.

    Immediate support

For people who need accident counselling, it’s usually better to start it sooner rather than later. There is help available on the NHS, but unfortunately many areas have long waiting lists. Private counselling is within most people’s budget but the costs can add up over time. At Accident Advice Helpline, we would urge you to get the help you need, but hang onto your receipts. You may be able to reclaim the money.

Because we understand the stress that you can feel after an accident, we try to make our system as simple and accessible as possible. You can call us at any time of the day or night, whenever you feel ready, and it won’t cost you anything. Our advisors will always be sympathetic. They can talk through your situation with you and tell you what help you might be able to get.

    How compensation can help

Some people think that winning a compensation claim is just about getting money to make up for being injured. In fact, although there is that element to it, it’s also very much about helping you to deal with or get over your problems in the future. Compensation is often intended to pay for counselling. After all, if you only need it because of an accident that was somebody else’s fault, you are not the person who should have to pay for it.

The amount of money in a compensation payment is usually adjusted, to an extent, to take into account the needs of the victim. In a case where you need counselling, you will usually need an assessment to work out how long you are likely to need it for. You may then be able to get money to cover the cost and ensure you have support until you feel well again.

Often, it’s even possible to get a compensation deal without you having to appear in court.

Getting compensation that pays for counselling can really help you to get back on your feet after a traumatic experience. We will help you to get the support you need.
