    £20k payout for compensation after nightmare holiday

    A couple from Bristol have finally been awarded a £20k payout after taking the tour operator Thomas Cook to court over a nightmare holiday experience in 2009. They travelled to the Dominican Republic and stayed in the Bahia Principe Hotel, a four-star venue. However Mark Bidwell, who was travelling with his partner Nicola Greathurst, soon fell ill, suffering a range of nasty symptoms. These included diarrhoea, extreme tiredness and abdominal pains. He also lost weight.

    The severity of the gastric illness ruined the holiday and even though they returned from the break several years ago Mark is still having problems associated with the illness. Nicola received a settlement in 2013 but Mark has had to wait until now to resolve the issue. Finally, a couple of weeks before the trial was due to begin, he received the payout mentioned here.

    The couple were looking forward to the birth of their baby prior to the holiday but the experience turned it into a nightmare for them. The compensation at least puts a close to the business, but Mark is still suffering symptoms that may well continue into the future. Mark stated they regretted going to the hotel.

If food is properly stored and prepared and provided to people at the right temperature without being reheated, it does not have to cause severe illness as it did in this case.
