In 1998, Legal Aid was withdrawn for personal injury cases and was replaced by the conditional fee agreement scheme, colloquially known as ‘no win no fee.’

No win no fee means that the solicitor is only entitled to be paid his legal fee if he wins the case. The solicitor’s payment is made by your opponent or their insurance company and does not come out of any award of compensation.
