Inverness man dies in fiery road traffic accident

by Tejas Mehta 7 September 2010

An Inverness man has died in a horrific road traffic accident after his car apparently hit a tree and burst into flames.

The man was alone in the Renault Clio when it left the road between Croy and Clephanton, near Inverness, at about 4.50pm yesterday, reports the Press and Journal.

Paramedics, police officers and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus raced to the location of the accident, but the man died at the scene.

Northern Constabulary officers spent several hours investigating the cause of the accident, and last night appealed for witnesses.
When the road reopened at about 8.30pm, the ground at the accident site was scorched.
One witness said: “It must have been a horrific crash. The car is an utter wreck – completely burned out.”

The driver, who has not yet been named, is the fourth person to die on Highland roads in just nine days.
