A young rugby player who suffered a terrible sports injury faces an anxious wait to see if he will walk again.
Jordan Curtis, 15, from Blackpool, was tackled in a ‘regulation’ manner during the second half of a match on Sunday but fell heavily and broke two vertebrae in his neck.
Jordan, a player for Wigan St Patricks Under-16s, received immediate treatment at the accident scene after officials from both his team and opponents Ince Rose Bridge rushed to help him.
He was transferred to Manchester’s St Mary’s Hospital where we underwent surgery. It is still not clear how serious his injuries are and what the prognosis for a full recovery might be.
The Wigan Warriors team, whose academy Jordan had been invited to join, have started a fundraising initiative to pay for any transport costs the Curtis family may occur while travelling from their home in Thornton Cleveleys to the hospital.
Pauline Mitchell, secretary for Blackpool Scorpions juniors, Jordan’s former team, told the Blackpool Gazette: "Everyone at the club wishes Jordan and his family the very best. He is a very talented boy.
"He is having an assessment on Wednesday and until then we won't know how far he will recover, but we are holding out every hope for him."
