A fireman has sustained a pelvic injury after he struck by a car in south London.
The man, in his 40s, was part of a group of striking fiefighters congregated outside Croydon Fire Station as part of a capital-wide walkout by London’s fire crews, when he was struck by a car that has allegedly broken picket lines.
The driver of the car, which was following a fire engine into the station, was arrested, it was confirmed.
The man was taken to St George’s Hosptial in Tooting following the accident, which happened at abour 3.30pm yesterday.
Fire Brigade Union president Mick Shaw told the Daily Mail: 'A fire engine returned from an incident and drove into the fire station, its crew refusing to wind down their windows and talk to the pickets.
'It was followed by a car and as the pickets tried to talk to the driver of the car, it accelerated suddenly and one of the striking firefighters was thrown up and into the windscreen.'
