Elderly murder suspect's injury means he can't be questioned by police

by Tejas Mehta 13 October 2010

A man in his 70s, arrested in connection with the murder of his wife, is too ill to be interviewed after it has been discovered he has also sustained an injury.

The 78 year old is currently in hospital under guard until he recovers sufficiently from his pelvic and wrist injuries, which detectives believe may be the result of the disturbance which led to his wife’s death.

His wife, aged 80, died from a severe head injury in the couple’s home in Salt Street, Bradford, a post-mortem has confirmed, although detectives are as yet unable to say what might have caused it.

A police spokesman told the Telegraph & Argus: “It is believed to have been a domestic-related incident which has led to the injuries to both people.

“The 78-year-old man is not well enough to be interviewed at this stage. He has injuries to his wrist and pelvis, probably as a result of the domestic incident.

“He has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is detained at Bradford Royal Infirmary, where he is under guard.

“The post-mortem has been carried out and has identified head injuries. However, further tests need to be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.”
