Welsh man paralysed by work injury could make compensation claim

by Injury Claim 9 August 2010

The case of a man who was paralysed from the chest down after suffering a severe work injury has been referred to the crown court after magistrates decided their powers were insufficient to make an informed ruling.

Christopher Shaw, an assistant winder at SCA Hygiene Products' paper mill, was crushed by a two-tonne roll of paper that  had not been properly secured in the accident in July 2007.

He does not have full movement in his arms and is probably eligible to make a work injury claim since he brought his case to the attention of the authorities within three years of the accident occurring. Given the nature of his injuries the amount of compensation paid would likely be very high.
