BP fined £32m in work injury compensation

by Injury Claim 13 August 2010

Beleaguered petroleum giant BP have agreed to pay a massive £32million fine after several procedural failures at one of its refineries in Texas led to 15 employees suffering fatal work injuries.

An explosion at the refinery south-west of Houston in 2005 also injured more than 170 people, reports the Metro.

The fine is still dwarfed in comparison with the raft of injury claims that the company is facing in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. BP are said to be working closely with the Occupational  Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to improve their employee safety record.
