A factory worker who developed repetitive strain injury after performing sustained manual labour and heavy lifting has been awarded a work accident claim of £3000.
Geoffrey Coleman, from Cumbria, worked at a factory packing bags which when full weighed 50 kilograms.
Due to the repetitive nature of his job, Mr Coleman eventually began to develop severe pains in his forearms. He successfully made a claim against his employers, arguing that they should have carried out a risk assessment and implemented changes as a result, such as rotating workers and ensuring that they were not subjected to the same type of work over a sustained period of time.
In the wake of his claim, the factory has made operational changes to prevent such a thing happening again and Mr Coleman has returned to work.
