Not many people who lose fingers after a work accident claim to be happy, but 29-year old Mark Leadbitter is an exception.
Mr Leadbitter, from Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, could have lost all the fingers from his hand after a nasty accident at work involving a saw, had it not been for the quick actions of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. Its crew him to hospital in fifteen minutes, and two of the four damaged fingers were saved.
He even had time, despite obviously being in pain, to enjoy the view from the air as he was still conscious throughout his brief flight.
Mr Leadbitter is full of praise for the service and its crew:
‘It is worth its weight in gold. When I got to hospital I was priority number one, I went straight into X-ray and saw the surgeon."
Now the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph reports that both his parents want to repay the WNAA for the help they provded to their son after his accident.
His mother Janet, a worker for Wellingborough Council, has persuaded her colleagues to dress in yellow for the day tomorrow while his father Simon has become a volunteer for the service.
