A Colchester engineer has made a work accident claim for more than £300,000 after an accident two years ago.
Gary Finnegan, 47, lost all of the fingers and part of the thumb on his right hand when it became trapped and crushed by a piece of machinery he was attempting to fix in November 2008.
The machine had developed a coolant leak, and Mr Finnigan needed to keep the machine running while he investigated the blockage that he thought was causing the problem. Unfortunately a moving part that he had not known about before caught his hand and resulted in the injuries he sustained.
He claims that he still has phantom pain in the missing digits and struggles with his daily routine since his hand is now 'virtually useless'. He alleges that the company’s negligence to inform him of the existence of the part constitutes a breach of their duty to provide him with sufficient training to perform his job and to protect him.
