A boy from Oldham who was left disabled by a botched operation is to receive compensation from the NHS.
Hayden Aspin was born with bilateral dislocatable hips, so doctors at Royal Oldham Hospital used a splint to try and correct the condition. Unfortunately this device held his legs in the wrong position and one leg is now significantly shorter than the other and he walks with a limp. He now faces the possibility of hip replacement surgery when he is older as well as a great likelihood of developing osteoarthritis.
The Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust has offered Hayden and his family their sincere apologies and in a 2007 court case admitted liability for his condition, leaving the path open for him to claim compensation.
Although the BBC did not report the amount of the payout, the Trust said they had reached an out of court settlement.
