A Hampshire motorcyclist who lost his leg after a horrendous car crash is seeking compensation of more than £300,000.
Martin Stephens, from Fleet, was riding his Honda motorbike along Aldershot Road in Church Crookham when Robert Siddall’s BMW pulled out of a side road and straight into his path, leaving Mr Stephens with nowhere to go.
He had to be taken to Charing Cross Hospital in London but surgeons were forced to amputate his right leg below the knee, and he has required several gruelling operations in the years since the accident to rebuild his shattered left leg.
Mr Stephens says that he has been unable to return to work as a motorcycle engineer since the crash on September 22, 2007, and claims that his injuries have also led to severe depression and chronic adjustment disorder.
Mr Siddall’s insurers have admitted liability for the accident, but both parties are unable to agree on the amount that Mr Stephens should receive. He alleges that he needs the money to pay for prosthetic limbs and special adaptation to his car, as well as to compensate him for lost earnings.
