Biker struck by oncoming car seeks £300,000 compensation claim

by Tejas Mehta 20 November 2010

A motorcyclist who was seriously injured when he was hit by an allegedly negligent driver has lodged a claim for £300,000 in personal injury compensation.

Ben Bates, now 22, was hit head-on by a car being driven by Michelle Morrall on September 14, 2007, which resulted in multiple leg, arm and shoulder injuries which required major reconstructive surgery.

It is claimed that Ms Morrall was attempting to perform an overtaking manoeuvre at the time of the crash, but failed to spot Mr Bates coming towards her. She was fined £133 and her license was endorsed with five penalty points, reports the Leicester Mercury.

Mr Bates contends that the injuries he suffered have severely affected his ability to work and also caused him to suffer anxiety.

He told the paper: "No one should underestimate the impact that this type of injury has on your life.

"I'm determined, however, that I will return to as normal a life as possible for as long as my injury will allow me."
