A teenager has died in a violent, fiery car crash in Liverpool.
The 19 year old was believed to have been a front seat passenger in the Jaguar S-Type when it crashed into a lamp post on Stanley Road and burst into flames.
Police who had been following the car, after spotting it being driven at speed in the city centre, were able to haul the driver to safety but were unable to do the same for his companion. The survivor, who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, was taken to Liverpool Royal University Hospital with serious injuries including a shattered pelvis, reports the Liverpool Echo.
An investigation into the crash is underway and Merseyside Police hope to make a formal identification of the victim later today.
