A tragic weekend on Scotland’s roads has seen six people lose their lives.
On Sunday afternoon, two people died from their injuries after a car crash in St Cyrus, Aberdeenshire, which also resulted in a ‘number of casualties,’ while a motorcyclist was killed in a separate accident on the A387 at the same time.
Sicilian-born chef Roberto Alongi died when his BMW motorcycle, which he had bought himself as a birthday present, collided with a Seat on the A83 in Argyll on Saturday.
There were two motorsport-related deaths on the same day: a 48 year old who was competing in a private demolition derby near Tain lost his life after a crash, while 2008 Scottish rally champion, Invernesshire’s Jimmy Girvan, died at the Colin McRae Rally in Aberfedly in Perthshire. He was 56.
Three children and their mother were also taken to hospital after an accident on the M74 yesterday. The 37-year-old driver lost control of her car, which struck the central reservation and overturned. She and two of her sons, aged 14 and 12, were taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital, but the youngest boy, ten, was airlifted to hospital with a serious head injury, reports the Scotsman.
