Two sisters who say their lives were ‘wrecked’ by a massive car crash have held a charity event to raise money for the air ambulance that came to their rescue.
Andrea and Sarah Fardoe were returning home from a shopping trip when their car was involved in a five-vehicle smash on the A38 in July. Andrea, 36, had to be airlifted to hospital with a broken pelvis while Sarah sustained a broken leg, broken ribs and a fractured spine in the accident.
Since the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance was attending an emergency call elsewhere, the Midlands service came to their aid instead.
Sarah, 34, told This is Derbyshire: "It just goes to show you never know when you need a service like the air ambulance. We think the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance was up at Chatsworth, which is why it couldn't come to us.
"The accident completely wrecked both mine and Andrea's lives, and those of our families, but I do feel somebody was watching over us that day because we could have died."
Their coffee morning, which also featured a cake stall, raffle and tombola, was attended by over 80 people and raised £1000.
