An Australian man’s insomnia saved his life last night when he narrowly missed becoming the victim of a freak car crash.
IT consultant Demitrios Bisbelis had been unable to sleep so decided to get up and switch on the computer to complete a piece of work he had failed to finish before he went to bed.
After about 20 minutes, he was just getting ready to turn the machine off and return to bed when he heard a ‘deafening crash.’
He returned to his bedroom to find a red Hyundai hatchback embedded in his house. The car had smashed through his garden fence and his front wall, and come to rest sitting on his bed.
"I'm very lucky because the bed was completely destroyed," Mr BisBelis told 3AW.
"If I did survive (being hit by the car) I would have come out with very severe lifetime injuries."
