Edinburgh man causes car crash after heart attack at the wheel

by Alison Leon 27 October 2010

A man has died in Edinburgh after crashing his BMW into the wall of a house.

Police say the 51-year-old, who died after being admitted to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, probably suffered a heart attack at the wheel of the car, which caused him to lose control and veer off the road at the Drumbrae roundabout at about 6am yesterday.

He ended up crashing through a railing before ploughing into the garden wall of Meadow Place House, a former B&B now home to three students and one young professional.

One of the occupants of the house, who wished not to be named, told the Deadline Press Agency that the four of them were asleep when the crash happened: “We were downstairs. I didn’t go outside.  I didn’t want to see.”

The man has not yet been named by police.
