Boxer David Haye's beloved Mercedes written off in Stockwell car crash

by Kathryn Boast 25 October 2010

Boxer David Haye suffered one knock that is likely to upset him more than most on Friday – when his white Mercedes SLK was written off by a bodyguard.

The car was being driven through Stockwell, south London when it apparently collided with an Audi and then slammed into a set of traffic lights. The accident caused extensive damage to the front end and leaving fluids and debris all over the road.

Haye was not in the car at the time, but took to Twitter in the aftermath of the crash, to say "I loved this car, it was the first decent car I bought and now it's dead! (Damn you lamppost! But I'm ok)."

Haye is likely to earn around £1m for his next fight, against Audley Harrison, on November 13th, a contest that has been dubbed ‘the Battle of Britain.’
