South London man banned from driving for three years for leaving the scene of a car accident

by Kathryn Boast 15 September 2010

A man has been banned from driving for three years after he left the scene of a car accident in Sutton, Greater London, on August 28 this year.

Tamer Selim, from St Albans Road in Carshalton, was found to be two and a half times over the drink-drive limit when he walked away from the crash on Brighton Road: 80mg/100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg/100ml.

Mr Selim, a self-employed tradesman, expressed sincere regret for his actions and had his initial ban of 42 months reduced on the basis that he pay £150 to attend a drink-driving course. He must also pay £600 in court costs.

The punishment was unusually heavy on this occasion due to an earlier conviction, seven years previously, for the same offence, the court order of which stated that he would receive a ban if he was found guilty.
