Scottish scuba diver drowns in tragic accident

by Accident Advice 18 August 2010

47-year old Kim Eberst was diving on Monday night with a group of friends from the Dundee Sub Aqua Club when she got in difficulties with her breathing apparatus. She apparently suffered a panic attack in the six-foot deep water when she could not locate her regulator, and was unconcious when she was pulled from the water by other divers. her husband was believed to be an instructor with the club, although it is not clear if he was on the dive at the time. A rescue helicopter was called at 8.30pm, but Mrs Eberst did not regain conciousness after she arrived at Ninewells hospital.

"It would seem that this has simply been a tragic accident.

"Although the woman was a fairly inexperienced diver herself, the group she was with were trained to the highest level and every safety precaution was taken,” said a Fife Constabulary spokesman.
