'Moment's indecision' led to biker's death in car accident

by Kathryn Boast 19 October 2010

A court has been told that a ‘moment’s inattention’ resulted in the death of a woman in a road accident.

Mo Stovell, who was 55, died when the motorcycle on which she was travelling as a passenger was struck by the vehicle of David Clarke, 57, of Bourton-on-the-Water. She died instantly, while her husband Bob, who was riding the motorcycle, was left critically ill. Her funeral was attended by over 400 people, with the exception of her husband who was in a coma in Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.

Clarke appeared before Gloucester Crown Court yesterday, due to stand trial for causing death by dangerous driving, but at the last minute he asked for the charge to be read again, according to This is Derbyshire, before pleading guilty to the charge.

Mr Stovell was only released from hospital three months ago, having spent eleven months there, and due to his head injuries cannot remember what his wife looked like despite 25 years of marriage.
