Man taken to hospital after work accident

by David Osele 20 October 2010

A man has been admitted to intensive care in a Somerset hospital following an accident at work in Chard.

The worker, who is thought to be in his 50s, was driving a forklift truck at premises on the Millfield industrial estate when it overturned, trapping him inside.

Emergency service crews attended the scene swiftly following notification of the accident, which happened in the early hours of last Wednesday morning. Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the man, who was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, where he remains in intensive care.

“We are very thankful to the emergency services,” said Richard Wheaton, director of Chard Truck Services, the man’s employer.  “They got here so quickly and did an exceptional job.”

The police and Health & Safety Executive are carrying out their own investigations into the accident.
