A man who claimed he stabbed his friend ‘by accident’ has been told he will probably go to jail following his admission of manslaughter.
David Baxter, 31, of Hodgkin Park Crescent, Newcastle, knifed Christopher Baker, 18, in the heart while the latter was wearing a stab proof-vest, reports the Ilkeston Advertiser.
Although he alleges that the accident was due to ‘horseplay’ the prosecution says the teenager’s death was due to Baxter’s ‘stupidity.’
The case was due to go to trial next month after Baxter had initially denied any wrongdoing, but he changed his plea and now has been warned that he will probably face a custodial sentence.
He has been remanded in custody before he is sentenced next month.
