Borders man dies in weekend car accident

by Tejas Mehta 14 September 2010

A man has died following a car accident in the Scottish county of Borders.

Andrew McLean, who was 22, died when his Vauxhall Nova collided with a Peugeot 307 that was driving in the other direction as he travelled along the A701 at 1.30pm on Saturday, half a mile from the junction with the A72.

Two occupants of the Peugeot, a 22 year old man and a 20 year old woman, were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed for five hours following the accident, while police investigated the crash. They are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the crash.

Mr McLean’s parents, from Dunsyre, Camwarth, said they are ‘united in grief.’

A police spokesman said: “We are still trying to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and would urge anyone who saw the collision to contact police immediately. “Similarly, anyone with information that can assist with our enquiries is also asked to come forward at once.”
