Spanish paramedics yesterday saved the life of an unborn baby boy after his mother was killed in a car accident.
Khadija el-Haddad was run over and killed while she was crossing a zebra crossing in Collado Villalba, 25 miles outside Madrid.
Ms el-Haddad, who was 26 and originally from Morocco, died despite the frantic efforts of medical staff to save her. They then lifted her body into their ambulance and performed an emergency Caesarian.
The child, a boy weighing seven pounds, had been starved of oxygen but was alive, and was taken to Puerta de Hierro hospital in Madrid, where he remains in intensive care.
The boy, named Moua as per his mother’s wishes, was seen briefly by his father, 29 year old cook Rachid Jahah.
