4 year old killed in freak accident at dad's scrapyard

by David Osele 18 October 2010

A family of 13 have described their devastation after their youngest child was killed in a freak accident at the weekend.

Nico Price, who was only four, had been playing with his older brother Anthony in his father’s breakers’ yard in County Donegal when a wheel fell from a pile and landed on him. He was rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital but died a short time later.

His mother Wendy, who along with husband Neil is originally from England, told the Belfast Telegraph,
"We don't really know what happened, it was all so sudden. Anthony was playing with Nico and he saw it all happen. Those two were never apart. When I found Nico, he was slumped over.

"The kids are not allowed in the yard during the day, but work was finished for the evening."

The accident is being investigated by gardai (Irish police) and the Heath and Safety Authority.

The Prices, who moved to the area of Burnfoot nine months ago, rented a small cottage and had become popular with the locals.

They have opted for a traditional Irish wake and are being comforted by neighbours.
