North West Leicestershire is a local government district within the administrative county of Leicestershire, in the East Midlands region of England. The North West Leicestershire local government district came into existence in 1974 after the passing of the Local Government Act of 1972, which merged the Ashby de la Zouch Urban District, Ashby Woulds Urban District, Coalville Urban District, Ashby de la Zouch Rural District, Castle Donington Rural District and Ibstock from the Market Bosworth Rural District. This had a profound effect on the size of the districts in the area, both in terms of land area and population.
